CBN Inserts with Chipbreaker
Featuring grade KB5610™ with chipbreaker

If you're machining hardened steels, you know that grinding is no longer the preferred method for finish turning applications. Hard turning is the preferred method because it drastically reduces costs per part, offers higher metal removal rates, faster cycle times, and greater flexibility.
But hard turning can present its own challenges, like poor chip control that can cause surface scratching and bird-nest formations. Though hardened steels typically are machined with a low- or medium-CBN content grade for fewer interruptions, the industry hasn't been able to add chipbreaker technology to low-content CBN inserts.
Until now.
Our two high-performance PCBN grades give customers total control of their hard machining. Kennametal grade KB5610 CBN inserts with chipbreakers are the industry's first to offer chipbreaking where it's needed most. Need more toughness? Choose grade KB5625™.
What does this mean for you?
- chipbreaker for improved chip control and surface quality, which reduce scrap rates
- reduced machine stops caused by swarf issues,
- KB5610 grade is ideal for continuous operations
- KB5625 grade is ideal for continuous and interrupted operations
- reduce bird-nest formations, which reduces cleanup time
