Course Content

This course is designed to provide the metalcutting professional with necessary skills to gain optimum performance in metalcutting operations. This course covers four major topics:

a) Mechanics of Metal Cutting will cover tooling from a design perspective. This section starts with a discussion on “How Tools Cut” and progresses through the design elements related to turning, milling, and drilling. All aspects of cutting geometry will be discussed along with its relationship to the cutting edge, workpiece material and power.

b) Materials Technology will start with a discussion of common cutting tool materials and how they relate to each other. A discussion of powder metal technology will start with “How Carbide Is Made” and progress through modern carbide and ceramic grade technology. Coating technology will include common application methods as well as the latest advances in coating materials.

c) Selection and Application will introduce the tool path method of selecting and applying tooling. This section will be divided into three main operations of turning, milling, and holemaking. Selection and Application will include processing exercises to provide hands-on experience.

d) Machining Economics will cover elements that affect productivity and overall cost, such as establishing operating conditions to gain maximum efficiency; the cause-and-effect relationship between operating conditions and tool failure; machinability, testing methods, and cost justification.

Apart from the above, we do cover subject on Fixtures for Machine Tools, wherein we talk about importance of Fixture, Design & Selection criteria, Trouble Shooting.

Certificate
Course certificate will be awarded to each participant on completion of the course. Kennametal Knowledge Center also encourages each participant to apply the knowledge acquired at their respective working shops. For this additional certificate of a project completion will be awarded if the same is attested by the participant HOD.

Hotel Accommodation
This program is non-residential.  However, we have made an arrangement with:  Hotel Citrine, No. 211, S.C. Road, Seshadripuram, Bangalore - 560020 (Tel: 080 4000 3000) Room rent*: Single occumapncy Rs.2,150/- & Double occupancy Rs2,570/- per night.  This room rent includes complimentary dinner.  Service tax extra.  Bills to be settled directly by the participant/s at the time of check out.  *Room taiff and tax at the time of booking will be applicable.

Transport: Transport would be provided to all the participants from the Hotel Citribe to Kennametal Knowledge Center and back, each training day.  If you wish to stay in a hotel other than the Hotel Citrine, you may do so, but, for boarding the bus, you will have to come to Hotel Citrine, as pick-up and drop will be arranged from this hotel only.

OVERVIEW
This Machining Centers course is designed to develop specific competencies in process optimization and tool selection and application for Machining Centers.  The course covers the metal cutting processes of Milling, Drilling and Boring and Tapping as they relate to both vertical and horizontal machining centers.  Tool handling systems are addressed along with their impact on productivity, finish, roundness and flatness.  This course concentrates on tool path effectiveness for increasing productivity, while controlling both work piece and tool costs.  Tooling concepts developed to take advantage of the multi-axis characteristics of machining centers are emphasized during tool path development ie., 3D and ‘Z” Axis Milling etc.

The Certified Metalcutting Professional (CMP) program is designed to demystify the metal cutting process and to provide defined and common selection criteria for all metalcutting tools. Tool selection criterion is based on proven cause and effect relationships that exist between three categories of tool design and application factors that can be applied to any metalcutting process. The CMP program is based on the fact that each factor within each category will provide a common effect regardless of the metal cutting process.

Courses in the CMP program are separated into three sections and address Engineering Principles, Turning Processes and Machining Center Processes:
